Pax Vaporizer – Are they worth the money?

Popular Seeds: (Must Try)

Pax vaporizer – a name most vape enthusiasts are familiar with. If you haven’t heard of them, you’re likely new to the world of vaping. As the title suggests, a pax vaporizer isn’t the cheapest option out there.

There’s quite a bit of a price increase when comparing the Pax 2 to the Pax 3. The Pax 3 costs $50 to $100 more than the Pax 2, depending on the features you’re after.

Buying a Pax Vaporizer – The Good

The Pax 3 comes with several new and improved features that the Pax 2 is lacking. But are they good enough to warrant the extra cost?

Versatility

This feature (or lack of) can be both good and bad. The Pax 3 is capable of using both flower and concentrates such as wax. The bad news is that the concentrate insert doesn’t come with the base model. You’ll instead need to purchase the complete package. If you aren’t sure however, you can always purchase the concentrate insert later on. The Pax 2 isn’t able to be used with any concentrates.

Warranty

The Pax 2 comes with a 2 year limited warranty, compared to the Pax 3’s 10 year limited warranty. This is a huge increase in their warranty period, which really puts any potential buyer’s quality doubts at ease. You know that the product must be well made when the warranty is far longer than most warranties of new cars. Even the 2 year warranty that comes with the Pax 2 should be satisfactory to most people.

Colors

When the Pax 3 was first released, it came in gloss colors compared to the matte colors available for the Pax 2. Since then, Pax has reverted back to matte finishes. A lot of people were complaining about the gloss colors being scratched easily, however this is no longer an issue with the matte finishes.

The Pax 3 now comes in black, rose gold, silver and teal. The Pax 2 comes in charcoal and platinum.

Battery Life

If you’re considering a Pax vaporizer, rest assured that the battery lives for both models are more than sufficient. The Pax 2 & 3 have 2600 mAh & 3500 mAh battery sizes respectively. From the Pax website, these battery sizes will give you 6 – 8 sessions for the Pax 2, and 8 – 10 sessions for the Pax 3. While the term “session” has not been defined, the battery should last even the heaviest of vapers at least a few sessions.

Charging Time

The charging time of a Pax vaporizer is 120+ minutes for the 2, and 90+ minutes for the 3. Although these are minimum times, they’re pretty standard for your average rechargeable device. If you’re used to using quick charge for your mobile phone however, these times might seem long in comparison. Will the Pax 4 bring with it a quick charge feature? There’s been no word of this yet, as Pax is yet to even confirm if there will be a Pax 4.

Design

One of the most notable features of a Pax vaporizer is its sleek, refined and sexy design. It looks very discreet, while also fitting comfortably in hand. Some people even make the comparison as Pax being the Apple of vaporizers. They’re slightly smaller overall compared to the Davinci IQ Vaporizer (a similarly priced vape), however some people might prefer the IQ’s shorter, more rectangular design compared to the longer, more cylindrical shape of a Pax vaporizer.

Heating Time

So you’ve just come home from a long day of work and are ready to have a few vapes. On the Pax website the average heating time is listed as 45 seconds for the Pax 2, and 20 seconds for the Pax 3. Both are very quick in heating up, meaning you won’t be waiting long for that first vape.

App Integration

Personally I don’t find the ability to control your Pax 3 via your phone very useful. All of the necessary settings can be controlled directly on your vape, but if you like to play around with the settings then it will give you more control. The Pax 2 doesn’t have this ability, one of the bigger distinguishing factors.

Through the app you can change the color and brightness of your lights, and the vibration settings. You can also control the temperature down to the degree through the app. The Pax 2 comes with 4 pre-defined temperature settings, each 20ºF apart, which definitely seems like adequate levels of control.

App Integration – Usage Modes

The usage modes that come with the Pax 3 app make using the app worth while. There are 5 different modes, all with different features.

Standard: Set a constant temperature on the device.

Boost: Keeps your device at a higher temperature when it senses not in use, meaning it’s ready for use in a moments notice.

Efficiency: Slowly increases the oven temperature during use. The idea behind this is that when freshly packed, a higher temperature isn’t required to produce vapor. After several uses, a higher temperature is needed to still extract vapor. This feature is meant to make your packs last longer, however the effectiveness of this is hard to judge.

Stealth: Great when out in public, stealth mode cools your vape’s temperature faster after use and dims LED’s. This mode is meant to emit less of an odor to your surrounds.

Flavor: Flavor mode provides the most on-demand heating and cooling. This mode quickly fluctuates the temperature, giving you the best flavor.

Games

Yep, the Pax 3 comes with games. Launch them through the app and play them on your vape. There’s 3 available; Pax Run, Pax Says and Pax Spin. The first two aren’t worth the (small) loss in battery in my opinion. Pax Spin on the other hand can be fun if you have a group of 4. The idea is to put the vape in the middle and you all sit around it. One of the 4 LED lights will be randomly chosen, meaning that person takes a hit. Although simple, the game can be a lot of fun.

Buying a Pax Vaporizer – The Bad

No Removable Battery

This downside might not be an issue to most people, but for some it’s a deal breaker. This may be an issue if you plan on taking your vape on a long outdoors trip. Unlike the Davinci IQ, both models don’t allow the removal of their batteries. The IQ’s batteries can be removed, recharged and replaced, allowing you to bring a few spares on longer outdoor trips. This missing feature can easily be fixed with a power bank though, keeping you high on those longer hikes.

Overheating

Overheating might be a bit too drastic of a word, but both Pax models can get hot if left on too long. When taking hit after hit, either by yourself or in a group, you might need to turn off momentarily to allow the device to cool down. Although this can be annoying, the device doesn’t get too hot to touch. A quick break every few hits will keep the device to a reasonable temperature.

Cleaning

Like all vapes, the Pax vaporizer requires cleaning. This is a relatively quick and easy process, but make sure you keep on top of it. Not cleaning the Pax regularly can result in reduced efficiency and small blockages. Regardless of the model you choose, they all come with pipe cleaners and a wire brush.

Cost

Ultimately, a weed vaporizer has one job – to get you high. The Pax certainly achieves this, however there’s alternatives out there that do this for far less money. If you’re looking for a budget vape, a Pax vaporizer probably isn’t for you. If you’re looking to spend a bit extra, and are after a long lasting product, then the Pax may be for you.

Whilst it is an expensive device, you can also use a PAX promo code to reduce the cost a little.

So, is a Pax vaporizer worth it?

Pax vaporizer’s have enough cool features to spark an interest, but (for most people) no missing features to turn you away. The price to feature ratio seems quite fair, so opting for the Pax 2 will give you all the features you’ll probably need, while skipping on some of the desirable but unnecessary features. If you want to spend a bit more, you have 2 options and 2 price levels with the Pax 3; with or without the concentrate insert. If you choose not to spend the extra money, the option exists for buying the concentrate insert later on.

If you don’t mind the non-removable battery and are looking for a high-quality vape, a Pax vaporizer is worth the money. There’s also an element of comfort that comes with the purchase, as a minimum of 2 years warranty (10 years with the Pax 3) is nice to have.
